I am the Course Leader for the MA in Naval History by distance-learning course at the University of Portsmouth. In addition to my role a Lecturer in Naval History teaching on the MA, I contribute to the BA in History programme. I also supervise PhD students researching topics relating to naval and maritime history.
MA in Naval History by Distance-Learning
I am the course leader for Portsmouth’s MA in Naval History program, as well as module coordinator for the two core thematic modules – Wooden Walls and Rise & Fall, which explore the history of the Royal Navy from 1500 to 1960. I also supervise many students’ Research Projects and Dissertations.
PhD Supervision
Alongside my teaching, I supervise PhD students looking at topics in modern naval and maritime history. I would welcome PhD applicants interested in researching topics relating to twentieth century naval history, the Royal Navy and British Empire, gunboat diplomacy, or Anglo-Chinese maritime interactions.
BA in History
I supervise a number of BA in History dissertation students looking at topics relating to British naval, maritime, and imperial history.
